Development and Validation of a Revised VAS-Anxiety Measurement Tools for Preschool Hospitalized Children

Background: The visual analogue scale (VAS) instrument is proven to be reliable in measuring anxiety. Experts argue, however, that the aspect of psychosocial trauma a different language has limitations, especially among hospitalised children under age six. As result, study sought revise and validate trustworthy, child-friendly VAS for use Indonesia. Methods: A preliminary survey was conducted 81 respondents met inclusion criteria. An expert committee reviewed revised VAS-Anxiety-Indonesia sensitivity content validity. Thus, Centre Indonesia Language charged with forward backward translation from English Indonesian vice versa. In this study, data were collected two phases. first collection 21 face second phase recruited 60 retests confirmations modified items components VAS-A-Indonesia. Statistical analysis used Pearson correlation coefficient 0.05. test performed validity index, item analysis, internal consistency reliability testing, Exploratory Factor Analysis. Results: consists 12 items. With three factors measure anxiety, they accounted 65.2% overall variance. index 0.825 (Aiken's V), correlations ranged 0.354 0.686, Cronbach's alpha 0.837. Conclusion: version VAS-A valid assessing anxiety preschoolers admitted hospitals.
